TCG Emporium

Accessibility

This site is built to work with a keyboard alone, with a screen reader and at any zoom level, and every page should make sense without seeing a picture. We have not had it audited and we do not claim it meets any accessibility standard. This page says what the site does, what we know is not right yet, and how to tell us about a problem, which is by email to hello@tcgemporium.com.

How the pages are built

Every page uses plain HTML structure. There is one main heading per page, sections sit under headings in order, and the header, main content and footer are marked as separate landmarks so a screen reader can jump between them. The main menu and the breadcrumb trail are marked as navigation, and the breadcrumb marks the page you are on. Pages declare UK English as their language, so screen readers pronounce them correctly.

The first thing you reach when you press Tab is a "Skip to content" link. It stays hidden until it has focus, then takes you past the header to the main content. Links, buttons and the search field are standard HTML elements, so you can reach them with Tab and use them with Enter. The search field has a written label for screen readers, not only placeholder text. In the main part of the page and in the footer, whatever has focus gets a dark blue outline. The header is the exception, as the limitations below explain.

There are no product photos, card images or icons that carry meaning, so nothing is lost if images are switched off or cannot be seen. When we add product photos, each will have a written description, and the facts that matter (set, contents, condition) will stay in the text as well.

Text, colour and zoom

Text sizes are set in relative units, so the site follows the text size you choose in your browser. Pinch zoom is not blocked on phones. Text is never squeezed into a narrow column. It runs the full width of the page area and reflows as you zoom, and narrowing the window shortens long lines.

Main text is dark navy on an off-white background, with a contrast ratio of about 14.6 to 1. Secondary text is about 7.1 to 1. WCAG 2.2, the W3C guideline, asks for at least 4.5 to 1 for normal text at its AA level. We will keep to that as a minimum, and we will not use colour as the only way of showing something.

Known limitations

These are the ones we know about. There will be others.

Your rights

In England, Scotland and Wales, the Equality Act 2010 requires anyone providing a service to the public to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people are not put at a substantial disadvantage. Where the barrier is about information, that can mean providing it in an accessible format. A business cannot charge a disabled person for the cost of making the adjustment. Northern Ireland has its own disability law, and we will make the same adjustments wherever you live.

How to report a problem

Email hello@tcgemporium.com. It helps to tell us the page address, what you were trying to do and what device, browser or assistive technology you use, but send what you can. If you need anything on this site in another form, such as plain text by email, ask and we will send it. Our contact page gives the same address.

Not decided yet

The shop has no phone number or postal address yet, so email is the only way to reach us. We have not set a target time for replying to accessibility reports. This page will say both when they exist, and it will be reviewed again before the shop opens.
