About Base Set
Base Set is where the English card game began, in January 1999, 102 cards. It is the set with Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur on holo, and it is also the set where the printing matters more than anywhere else, because the same card exists as 1st Edition, shadowless and unlimited, and the three are different cards to a collector.
There is no sealed Base Set product we would list without a documented chain, and even then rarely. Resealed vintage packs are common, the four theme decks (Brushfire, Zap!, Overgrowth and Blackout) are routinely offered opened, and we would rather not carry it than carry it on trust. If we ever list a Base Set pack or box, the page will say where it came from and who handled it.
Singles are the way in, and this is a set where our condition standard and our printing labels earn their keep. Every Base Set single we list will name the printing and show both faces. If you are after a particular card, say which printing and which condition you will accept in the request email.
