Pokémon Booster Boxes, Bundles and ETBs Explained
By TCG Emporium · Published 17 October 2026 · Checked 17 October 2026
A modern English Pokémon booster box holds 36 booster packs, and each pack holds ten cards plus one Basic Energy and one code card. The Pokémon Company calls the box a booster display, and the count of 36 is printed on the listings for main sets such as Mega Evolution and Perfect Order. It does not apply to every product with "box" in its name, and several sets have no English booster box at all. Below, each sealed format is set out using named products checked against their official listings on 17 October 2026.
Compare the main Pokémon product formats
Every row below is an example checked against official pages. It shows how that one product is packed, not how every product in the format is packed. Where two official listings for the same product disagree, the row says so.

Booster boxes and booster packs
The Pokémon Company's name for a booster box is a booster display. The Mega Evolution display listing gives 36 booster packs. The Perfect Order display listing gives 36 packs, each with ten cards, one Basic Energy and one Pokémon TCG Live code card. That is the count for a modern English main-set box. The listing names nothing else, so expect no promo, no sleeves and no storage inside.
Do not carry that 36 across to other products. A Japanese booster box is a different product made for Japan, and Japanese packs are built differently: the Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia packs hold five cards each. We could not load an official page giving a Japanese box count, so read the count printed on the box in front of you. An ex Box is not a display either. It is a collection product, and the 30th Celebration ex Box is listed with four packs and a promo card in normal and oversize versions.
Some sets have no English booster display. The Pokémon Company's own pages for 151, Black Bolt and White Flare explain that packs from those special expansions come in other products, such as Elite Trainer Boxes and collections, rather than in displays. The official product lists for 151, Prismatic Evolutions, Black Bolt, White Flare and Ascended Heroes, and the announced line-up for 30th Celebration, show no booster display. If you see a 36-pack English box offered under one of those names, ask the seller exactly what it is. Our booster boxes page will list the sets that do have a display, set by set.
Booster bundles and ETBs
A booster bundle is six booster packs from one set and nothing else. The bundle listings for Prismatic Evolutions, Mega Evolution, Perfect Order and White Flare all give six, and the 30th Celebration bundle is announced with six. For a set with no display, it is the product to look at first if you want packs without a kit.
An Elite Trainer Box is a set of packs plus a kit, and the kit changes by era, so "ETB contents" has no single answer. The Mega Evolution ETB holds nine packs, one full-art foil promo (Riolu or Alakazam), 65 card sleeves, 40 Energy cards, a player's guide, six damage-counter dice, a coin-flip die, a plastic coin, a box with six dividers and a code card. The Black Bolt ETB from the Scarlet & Violet era also has nine packs, but 45 Energy cards. The Battle Styles ETB from the Sword & Shield era has eight packs, 45 Energy cards, two acrylic condition markers, a box with four dividers and a printed rulebook. The 30th Celebration ETB is announced with nine packs and 16 foil Basic Energy cards. If one item matters to you, the listing for that exact box is the only place to confirm it.
Side by side, a bundle is six packs and an ETB is nine packs with a promo card, sleeves, Energy, dice and a box. The 65 sleeves cover fewer than the 90 cards nine packs produce, so you will still need sleeves if you keep everything. Which works out cheaper per pack depends on what each product costs on the shelf, and we cannot say that until we open. For a present for someone starting out, the ETB is the format here that arrives with sleeves, Energy, dice and a box together, and the Elite Trainer Boxes page will set out the boxes we stock.
Pokémon Center and standard editions
A Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box is the standard ETB with two more packs and a second copy of the promo. For Mega Evolution, Perfect Order, Black Bolt and White Flare, the official contents lists show 11 packs instead of nine and the same full-art promo twice, once with the Pokémon Center logo and once without. Every other line on those four lists matches the standard box for the same set. The Pokémon Center edition is listed for sale at the Pokémon Center, while the standard box is listed for the Pokémon Center and other shops.
For 30th Celebration, the Pokémon Center box is announced with 11 packs and two Nidorina promos, one with the logo, and the announcement does not give a full contents list. Outside those five sets we make no claim about the pattern. A listing that says "Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box" should show the logo promo in its photographs. A listing that does not say which edition it is deserves a question before you buy.
Tins, mini tins and collection boxes
A mini tin holds two packs and some small extras, sold as a run of designs. The Mega Heroes Mini Tin has two packs, a sticker sheet and an art card, in five designs. The Unova Mini Tin has one Black Bolt pack, one White Flare pack, a sticker card and an art card, in eight designs. The 30th Celebration Mini Tin is announced with two packs, a sticker sheet and an art card, in ten designs.
The difference between those listings matters. The Unova listing names the sets. The Mega Heroes listing says two Pokémon TCG booster packs and names no set. When the contents line names no set, nothing on the tin tells you which packs are inside. A question like "which tins have Evolving Skies packs" cannot be answered from a tin's name or shell, only from the contents line of that exact product.
Full-size tins are built around a promo card with a few packs behind it, and the name alone is not a contents guarantee. The Team Rocket Tin has the same name and the same three promo choices on its UK and US listings, but the UK listing says four packs and the US listing says five. If one name can carry two pack counts at the same time, it can carry different contents when a tin is printed again for another wave or region. Check the contents line for the exact product and the country you are buying in.
That is also our answer on tin codes. Collectors share lists matching the code printed on a tin to the sets people found inside. None of those lists can be checked against an official source, and no official listing ties a code to a set. We will not print a code list, and we will not describe a tin's packs from its code.
"Collection box" covers everything else, and pack counts vary widely. The Mega Charizard X ex Ultra-Premium Collection has 18 packs. The 30th Celebration showcase lists a 2-Pack Blister with two packs, a Poster Collection with three packs and three promos, a Binder Collection with five packs and an ex Box with four. None of those numbers carries over to the next product with a similar name. Our collection boxes page will print the contents line for each product we stock.
Contents per pack and special-set exceptions
A modern English booster pack holds ten cards. The Perfect Order display listing adds one Basic Energy and one Pokémon TCG Live code card to each pack, outside the ten. A listing that counts twelve items per pack is counting the Energy and the code card.
Ten is not universal. Celebrations in 2021 used four-card packs, and the Celebrations Ultra-Premium Collection lists 17 Celebrations 4-card booster packs and eight additional booster packs. Each 30th Celebration pack is announced to hold five foil cards, one of them a Pikachu, plus a foil Basic Energy. The 30th Celebration Ultra-Premium Collection, announced but not yet released when we checked, is listed with 29 packs and one Classic Collection pack of three cards. Japanese Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia packs hold five cards. So the answer to how many cards are in a Pokémon pack is ten for the usual modern English pack, and whatever the listing says for everything else.
Contents are a separate question from pull rates, which are not published officially. What a pack holds is on its listing. What it is likely to hold is covered in pull rates explained.
Choose the format for your goal
| What you want | Format | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| As many packs of one set as possible in one sealed unit | Booster display, where the set has one | 36 packs in one box | Booster boxes |
| Packs from 151, Prismatic Evolutions, Black Bolt, White Flare, Ascended Heroes or 30th Celebration | Booster bundle or Elite Trainer Box | No English display is listed for these sets | Booster bundles |
| A present for someone starting out | Elite Trainer Box | Packs, sleeves, Energy, dice and a box together | Elite Trainer Boxes |
| Packs and nothing else | Booster bundle | Six packs, no kit | Booster bundles |
| A particular promo card | The tin or collection that lists it | Each product lists its own promo, so read the contents line | Collection boxes |
| A small present, or a run of designs | Mini tin | Two packs and an art card per tin | Tins |
| One particular card | A single card | No sealed product guarantees a particular card | Singles |
If a display is the format that fits, best Pokémon booster boxes will compare the main sets that have one.
If you want a handful of packs rather than a box, best Pokémon packs to buy will go through bundles, tins and single packs set by set.
If the ETB is the one, best Elite Trainer Boxes will compare the current boxes and the promo and kit each one carries.
