One Piece Manga Cards and Rarities
What manga cards, alt arts and SP cards are, how Bandai names each rarity, and how to read the code on the card search.

One Piece manga cards are alt-art cards where the artwork covers the whole card with scenes from the ONE PIECE manga. Bandai's own name for them is Super Alt-Art, and "manga rare" is collector shorthand. This guide covers every rarity Bandai uses, so you can tell a manga card from an alt art, an SP card or a Secret Rare.
One Piece card rarities at a glance
Bandai's card search gives each card a short code. The table pairs each code with the rarity name used on Bandai's product pages and an example from the official card search.
| Code in the card search | Rarity | Example |
|---|---|---|
| L | Leader | OP17-001 Edward.Newgate |
| C | Common | OP17-002 Atmos |
| UC | Uncommon | OP17-009 Haruta |
| R | Rare | OP17-003 Izo |
| SR | Super Rare | OP17-005 Edward.Newgate |
| SEC | Secret Rare | OP17-118 Rocks.D.Xebec |
| SP CARD | Special Card | OP14-112 Boa Hancock (SP version) |
| TR | Treasure Rare | OP16-011 Vista (TR version) |
| P | Promotion card | P-044 Sabo |
Rarity does not change how a card plays. Bandai's comprehensive rules state that a card's rarity does not affect gameplay, and they say the same of the illustration. On the card itself, the rule manual's diagram places the rarity next to the card number and block symbol at the bottom right.
How many of each rarity are in a set
Bandai's product pages list how many card types of each rarity a set holds. These are types, not copies, and they leave out the alternate versions. Bandai notes separately that OP-04 has 25 types of alt-art cards and that OP-05 includes 27+1 types of parallel design cards.
| Set | Leader | Common | Uncommon | Rare | Super Rare | Secret Rare | Special Card | Treasure Rare |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| OP-01 Romance Dawn | 8 | 45 | 30 | 26 | 10 | 2 | None | None |
| OP-06 Wings of the Captain | 6 | 45 | 30 | 26 | 10 | 2 | 6 | 1 |
| OP-09 Emperors in the New World | 6 | 45 | 30 | 26 | 10 | 2 | 10 | 1 |
| OP-12 Legacy of the Master | 6 | 45 | 30 | 26 | 10 | 2 | 6 | 1 |
OP-12 also lists two 3rd Anniversary Special Cards and one DON!! card. Bandai's pages from OP-13 on name the rarities without giving a count for each.
What a manga card is
Bandai's English pages explain the terms. An Alt-Art card has a special design that differs from the standard card, and the page says the artwork may cover the entire card, have a shiny finish or a textured feel. A Super Alt-Art card is an Alt-Art card with a luxurious design, with the entire card covered by designs from the ONE PIECE manga.
That is the card collectors call a manga rare. Bandai's page for OP-13 uses OP13-118 Monkey.D.Luffy to illustrate it. In Bandai's card search OP13-118 and its alternate versions share one number, and four of the five listed carry the SEC code (the fifth is listed as an SP card), so the code alone will not tell you which version you hold. The card authenticator CGC uses the collector label too, in the title of its alert about OP05-119 Monkey D. Luffy.
Bandai's pages use more than one word for this. The OP-01 and OP-05 pages say parallel, including three Super Parallel cards in OP-05 and parallel versions of the manga-illustration Leader cards from OP-01 and OP-02. OP-04 and the pages from OP-09 on say alt-art.
Leaders get their own version. Bandai describes a Super Leader Alt-Art as a Leader card with artwork from the original ONE PIECE manga, and uses OP17-079 Monkey.D.Luffy as the example.
Manga cards by set
Bandai names its Super Alt-Art cards on the set pages. This is what the pages say, so it is not a complete list of every manga-art card.
| Set | What Bandai's page says |
|---|---|
| OP-05 Awakening of the New Era | Three Super Parallel cards, of the three captains |
| OP-09 Emperors in the New World | Four Super Alt-Art cards, the New Four Emperors |
| PRB-02 One Piece Card The Best vol.2 | Sanji as the Super Alt-Art, plus Super Alt-Art DON!! cards |
| OP-13 Carrying On His Will | OP13-118 Monkey.D.Luffy, plus a Red Super Alt-Art made for this pack |
| OP-14 The Azure Sea's Seven | Dracule Mihawk |
| OP-15 Adventure on Kami's Island | Enel |
| OP-16 The Time of Battle | The Three Admirals |
| OP-17 The World's Strongest Warriors | Super Alt-Art cards and a Super Leader Alt-Art, OP17-079 Monkey.D.Luffy |
To find manga art in Bandai's card search, the filters include an Illustration Type setting with the options Comic, Animation, Original Illustrations and Other. Comic is the nearest match for manga art. Our chase cards guide covers which cards collectors look for in each set.
Alt art, full art and parallel
Alt art and parallel mean the same thing in practice: a second version of a card with different artwork. The card keeps its number. Bandai lists OP14-112 Boa Hancock as an SR, and its alternate versions appear under the same number, one of them as an SP card.
Full art is a description, not a rarity. Bandai's pages use it for alt-art cards where the illustration fills the whole design, such as the new alt-art cards in PRB-01 that Bandai says are also the full art design, and the foil-stamped Event alt-arts in PRB-02. The rarity code underneath is still whatever the card is: SR, SEC and so on.
Because a deck may hold up to four cards with the same card number, as the rules put it, alternate versions share that limit with the standard card.
SP cards and special cards
SP cards are Bandai's Special Cards. Bandai describes a special card as a design separate from an alt-art card, with an illustration that covers the whole card or a finish chosen to suit the character. For PRB-02 it says SP cards have dynamic designs made to look as if they jump off the card.
The count varies by set. Main sets from OP-03 list between 4 and 10 Special Cards, usually 6, and OP-09 has the 10. EB-02 has 26, EB-03 has 9 and EB-05 has 6 types. OP-13 shows two kinds, WANTED Edition (4 cards) and Character Edition (6 cards, with an exclusive design and a luxurious finish).
An SP card shares its number with the standard card, in the same way as an alt art. On the card search, the SP version of OP14-112 Boa Hancock appears beside an SR version with the same number.
Treasure Rare, promos and anniversary cards
Treasure Rare first appears on Bandai's OP-06 page, which lists one, and it is listed again for OP-07 to OP-12 and OP-14 to OP-17. In Bandai's card search OP16-011 Vista is a Rare, and a Treasure Rare version of Vista shares its number.
Promotion cards use the P code and come inside other products. Bandai lists four in PRB-01, fifteen in PRB-02 and one in the Treasure Boosters Set. Anniversary cards are labelled on the pack page, such as the 1st Anniversary Special Card in OP-05 and the 3rd Anniversary Special Cards in OP-11 and OP-12.
DON!! cards have versions too. Bandai says PRB-02 has 30 different DON!! cards, with Alt-Art and Super Alt-Art versions.
Check a card before you buy or sort
Take the card number and look it up on Bandai's card search, then compare the artwork and rarity code. If you are buying a manga card, check it against a copy you know is genuine. CGC's counterfeit alert on a Luffy manga card pointed to differences in texture, font and the authenticity stamp. Our guide on how to spot fake One Piece cards goes through those checks. Once you have a card you like, put it in a sleeve; sleeves are in the shop.
For a particular set, the set order guide has every English launch date.
