One Piece Chase Cards by Set

One Piece chase cards are the highest-rarity cards of each set: the Secret Rares, the Treasure Rare, the Special Cards and the Super Alt-Art versions that Bandai names on its product pages. This guide names them set by set, using the official card search and the product page for each booster.

Collectors say "chase card" for the one they hope to open. The product pages we read do not use the term, so we apply a plain rule: a card counts here if the official card search lists it at Secret Rare, Treasure Rare or Special Card rarity, or if Bandai names it as a Super Alt-Art. The guide says nothing about pull odds, because those pages do not publish any.

The official rarity names

The card search shows a short code, and the product pages spell the names out. The table matches the two, with an example from the official list for each.

The Comprehensive Rules say a card's rarity does not affect gameplay. A chase card plays like any other copy of its card number, so the chase is about the card as an object.

Alt-Art, Super Alt-Art and Special Cards

Bandai defines three kinds of extra design on its OP-13 and OP-17 pages, and they are easy to mix up.

• Alt-Art. A card with a special illustration different from the standard card.
• Super Alt-Art. An Alt-Art with a luxurious design, with the entire card covered in designs from the ONE PIECE manga. Collectors call these Manga Rares.
• Special Card. A card with a special design that is different from an alt-art card. These are the SP CARD entries in the card search.

In the card search a Super Alt-Art sits under the same card number, and in the examples we checked the same rarity code, as the standard version of its card. For instance, OP13-118 Luffy has four Secret Rare versions, while OP17-022 Shanks has three Super Rare versions, and Bandai names OP17-022 as one of that set's Super Alt-Arts. So a Super Rare can be a chase card.

The Treasure Rare works differently again. OP17-040 Edward.Newgate is a plain Rare in the card search, and its Treasure Rare version is a separate entry. The card search shows one Treasure Rare in each booster set from OP-06 to OP-17.

Chase cards by booster set

The number in brackets after a Secret Rare is how many versions of that card the card search lists at Secret Rare. Treasure Rares are shown with the card number they carry. Dates are from the official site.

In the main line, the Secret Rares carry the highest card numbers of the set, between 118 and 120.

Bandai's English site has no separate EB-04 booster. The OP14-EB04 and OP15-EB04 products also carry cards numbered EB04, which is why a Luffy numbered EB04-061 appears in the OP-15 row and, as a reprint, in the OP-17 row.

Recent sets in a few lines

OP-17, The World's Strongest Warriors. Bandai lists four Super Alt-Arts as newly introduced, and the card search names them: Edward.Newgate OP17-005, Shanks OP17-022, Kaido OP17-062 and Charlotte Linlin OP17-112, all at Super Rare. It also names OP17-079 Monkey.D.Luffy as a Super Leader Alt-Art, and Rocks.D.Xebec OP17-118 has a 4th Anniversary alt-art version.

OP-16, The Time of Battle. Bandai says Portgas.D.Ace and Marshall.D.Teach debut as Secret Rares, and that the set's Super Alt-Art features the Three Admirals.

OP-15, Adventure on Kami's Island. Bandai's page leads with Secret Rare Monkey D. Luffy and Enel, and names Enel as the super alternate art.

OP-14, The Azure Sea's Seven. The Secret Rares are Dracule Mihawk and Crocodile, and Mihawk is the set's super alternate art.

OP-13, Carrying On His Will. Luffy, Ace and Sabo each have Super Alt-Art versions, and Bandai names a Red Super Alt-Art made for this set only. The WANTED Edition Special Cards are Gol.D.Roger OP09-118, Monkey.D.Luffy OP13-118, Portgas.D.Ace OP13-119 and Sabo OP13-120.

Older chase cards sit in sets such as Legacy of the Master. For the full run of releases, see our guide to One Piece card game sets in order. For what top cards have fetched at auction, see the biggest One Piece card sales, and for the full rarity ladder, our guide to One Piece card rarities.

Heroines, Anime 25th and Premium Booster chase cards

Extra Boosters and Premium Boosters have their own chase cards, and they come out on a different schedule from the main line.

Bandai made the Anime 25th Collection to mark the 25th anniversary of the anime, with new illustrations from the anime's artists, and it has one Secret Rare. Bandai says every PRB-02 pack contains at least one Super Rare or better. The Secret Rares in both Premium Boosters are earlier cards, so use the "Hide reprint cards" option in the official card search to see which cards are new in a set.

How to check a chase card yourself

The official card search lets you filter by series, colour, card type and illustration type, and it shows the rarity code beside each card number. Open the set you care about and look at the cards numbered 118 and above, then at the entries marked SP CARD and TR.

Remember that the card number alone does not identify a version. OP13-118 appears in the card search five times: four at Secret Rare and one as a Special Card. For sealed product, see our One Piece booster boxes page.

Questions

What are One Piece chase cards?

The cards collectors hope to open from a set. In this guide they are the Secret Rares, the Treasure Rare, the Special Cards and the Super Alt-Arts that Bandai names for each booster.

What is the rarest rarity in One Piece?

Bandai does not rank its rarities or publish pull odds on the pages we read. On the OP-07 to OP-12 product pages, the Treasure Rare is one card type and the Secret Rares are two, so those are the smallest groups listed.

Is a Manga Rare the same as a Secret Rare?

No. Manga Rare is a collector nickname for a Super Alt-Art, and Bandai gives each Super Alt-Art the rarity of the card it copies. OP13-118 Luffy is a Secret Rare, and OP17-022 Shanks is a Super Rare.

Which sets have a Super Alt-Art?

Bandai names Super Alt-Arts on the pages for OP-09, OP-13, OP-14, OP-15, OP-16 and OP-17, and for PRB-02.
